What does it take to be a Community Health Worker?
You do not need previous experience, all that is required is a caring, trustworthy and genuine nature, with a desire to help others who may be vulnerable.
Although community health work is a 24/7 vocation, we at Caring Heart and Hands Ltd recognise that each individuals lives are different. We accommodate various flexible hours to suit your lives and commitments, You will be working within a team of other Community Health Workers, Senior Health Workers and Management who will offer full support when and if needed. How long would I need to train?
Before any member of staff goes out into the community there is mandatory training to be undertaken. This is completed in our training room at the office and in the community. The NVQ in Health and Social Care which can be obtained is provided by an accredited company. We encourage all staff to further their training in Medication, Dementia, End of Life, and many more which we offer in partnership with Leeds City Council. All staff are paid to attend training courses and refresher courses are provided on a regular basis.
We recognise the importance of staff training and how valuable it is to provide high standards of care.
How many hours do I need to work?
Hours are very flexible in that full or part time hours are available depending on your current situation. Perhaps you have children in school or are needed to help care for family members. In the Care industry we cover hours 24/7 and are committed to ensuring that we have sufficient cover for all our Service User’s needs, therefore, we try to balance Carer’s requirements with Service User’s needs.
Do I need a car and driving license?
With the nature of our business a car and driving license are essential. We can service up to 10 service users a day, all our visits are carefully selected and arranged in areas to suit staff and service users alike. This enables us to provide the best quality service for the correct amount of time that is needed at each visit.
Is age or gender a relevant factor?
Age or gender are not an issue. As we have male and female Service Users of whom many do not have objections to opposite sex Carers. As a we company follow the equal rights act.
